HOW DOES A CO2 FRACTIONAL LASER WORK?

During an ActiveFX procedure, the high-energy laser light interacts with the skin’s surface, causing the upper layer to peel off and regenerate a layer of healthy new skin. These treatments affect a fraction of the skin’s surface in pinpoint columns, leaving microscopic adjacent areas of skin untouched. This allows for safer, faster healing following the procedure.

Most of our patients also elect to receive neuromodulator, dermal filler, and/or Kybella® injections in the weeks leading up to their ActiveFX procedure. This combination treatment tightens, smooths, and evens out the skin. Our providers can also evaluate your skin and recommend complementary procedures or even other laser treatments that might better serve your goals.

If you are unable to commit to the significant downtime associated with the ActiveFX procedure, you might consider additional laser treatments such as Fotona Micropeel, which requires three treatment sessions and provides great results. You might also consider the Clear + Brilliant® laser resurfacing treatment, another fractional laser that is gentler but requires multiple treatments. Our providers will assist you in selecting the procedure that is best for your skin type and for achieving the outcome you desire.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT AFTER TREATMENT?

The fractional technique for laser skin rejuvenation is the most aggressive treatment we offer, but the results are amazing and without equal. The face takes approximately five days to heal, and the neck and chest take about two weeks. Post-care is very important, and our dermatologists supply the instructions at a visit two weeks in advance of the procedure.

Most effects of treatment become visible right away, whereas others, such as new collagen formation, develop gradually and result in continued smoothing over the ensuing months. Improvements with the skin’s texture and tightening can occur up to 18 months after treatment.

HOW LONG WILL RESULTS LAST?

Results of ActiveFX treatments are long-term and, with maintenance and proper sun protection, can last for many years.

WHAT IS DEEPFX?

DeepFX laser resurfacing works on the same premise as ActiveFX, but DeepFX penetrates deeper. Both laser treatments require the training and experience of our board-certified dermatologists to ensure safety and efficacy. Dr. Comstock and Dr. Pai have demonstrated their superior technique using laser treatments on thousands of patients, and they will guide you to select the one that most closely suits your needs.
