What conditions can DeepFX treat?
Because the wavelengths produced by the DeepFX laser penetrate deeper than some other lasers, such as the ActiveFX™, it is effective for treating scars and deep lines. At Skin Spectrum we use DeepFX to treat:
- Deep wrinkles
- Acne scars
- Surgical or injury-related scars
- Enlarged pores
DeepFX is safe and effective as a standalone treatment, but it may also be combined with superficial ActiveFX treatments to produce what's called a TotalFX procedure.
How does the laser work?
Fractional lasers such as DeepFX and ActiveFX use state-of-the-art technology to create thousands of pinpoint holes in a random, computer-generated pattern. The laser pulses heat narrow columns of skin up to 1 millimeter deep while leaving surrounding tissue untouched. The heat triggers long-term collagen production in the skin's deeper layers, resulting in softer, smoother skin that replaces scars and wrinkles.
Who will perform my treatment?
Laser treatments are minimally invasive procedures, but they still require the training and experience of our board-certified dermatologists to ensure you get the desired results. Dr. Comstock and Dr. Pai have demonstrated their superior technique using laser treatments on hundreds of patients.
What can I expect during DeepFX treatment?
Patients report minimal discomfort during the treatment. We apply a topical anesthetic on the skin before treatment, and the procedure takes less than an hour. Our team can also perform other services at the same time, such as CO2 resurfacing and other laser, light or technical treatments. We will recommend skin care products to help you maintain your results after treatment.
What can I expect after the treatment?
Because earlier ablative lasers removed all of the skin's upper layers, patients often needed 1 to 2 weeks to recover from the treatments. Lasers such as DeepFX treat only a fraction of the skin, cutting the downtime to 3 to 5 days for the face. Recovery is typically longer if the neck or chest is treated.
After the procedure is completed at Skin Spectrum's treatment room, you'll be able to return home. You'll notice some oozing from the skin, which can be blotted gently with tissue. You may also notice swelling and itching, which can be relieved with an over-the-counter antihistamine.
It's important to cleanse the treatment area regularly and keep out of direct sunlight. You will notice some immediate changes to your skin, but the final results emerge gradually as new collagen is produced during the healing process. Because the DeepFX and ActiveFX lasers treat only a fraction of the skin in a single procedure, more than one treatment is needed. Most patients will require 2 treatments for optimal results. A follow-up DeepFX treatment is scheduled no sooner than 6 weeks after the initial procedure.
With proper sun protection, the results of your DeepFX treatments should last for years.
