Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy
You may have heard of injured athletes trying to enhance their healing using platelet-rich plasma therapy. At our Tucson clinic, PRP therapy is used in skin rejuvenation for individuals looking for gradual but noticeable improvement in skin texture, tone, and color with minimal or no recovery time. The procedure involves either injecting or topically applying your own platelets to "heal" wrinkles and scars. By using your own plasma, PRP therapy — also called a Vampire FaceLift® — provides a natural, minimally invasive alternative to surgery with virtually no side effects. That's why the therapy is becoming more popular among dermatologists.
Our Tucson clinic now offers this cutting-edge rejuvenation technique. request a cosmetic consultation to discover more about PRP therapy, or call our Tucson office at (520) 797-8885 to schedule an appointment.Dr. Jody

How does PRP therapy work?
Platelets help stop bleeding and spur repair of damaged blood vessels and cells. "Growth factors" contained in platelets activate and rejuvenate cells in our body. When platelets are used for the cosmetic treatment of your face, arms, and neck, the body is essentially tricked into triggering the production of collagen, which gives your skin a smoother appearance.

What to expect
A small blood sample is taken, then carefully separated into an injectable plasma serum rich in platelets. Once the serum is prepared, it is injected or applied topically to the problem area. Then our dermatologists use a micro-needler to push the serum into the skin at various depths.
Who can benefit?
People who want to add volume to their skin, reduce fine lines, or improve their skin's texture, but who also want to avoid plastic surgery, are ideal candidates for PRP therapy. Although the results aren't as permanent as a surgical procedure, you can still expect to see an improved appearance for about 18 months. Patients typically get a series of treatments at regular intervals to get the most benefit from PRP therapy.
