For more impressive results, our providers might suggest combining a filler treatment with Botox® Cosmetic, Dysport® or Jeuveau® injections, or with another non-invasive or invasive treatment. How Do Dermal Fillers Work?

The main ingredient in many dermal fillers is hyaluronic acid, which is identical to that which occurs naturally in the skin. Intrinsic aging gradually degrades the body’s ability to synthesize hyaluronic acid, and volume loss appears as the supply is depleted. To correct areas affected by this depletion, our expert injectors use some of the most popular hyaluronic acid dermal fillers in our practice, including JUVÉDERM® Ultra Plus XC, JUVÉDERM® Voluma™ XC, Restylane-L®, and Restylane® Lyft. Most fillers also contain an anesthetic to provide increased comfort during the procedure.

Where Are Fillers Used?

Fillers are commonly used to plump the lips and soften the fine lines around them, correct a down-turned mouth, improve marionette lines and nasolabial folds, soften frown lines, lighten dark circles, fill hollows below the eyes and in the temple area, lift the brows, rejuvenate the back of the hands, and plump wrinkly earlobes.

Most fillers are formulated for use in specific areas. Restylane® Kysse, for instance, is designed to add volume and shape to the lips, while also filling wrinkles around the mouth. Fillers can also be used as a “liquid face lift” to dramatically restore volume and provide the structure that is characteristic of a more youthful looking appearance.

What Can I Expect?

Treatment involves injection of the filler into the skin with a fine needle or a cannula. Our experienced injectors frequently utilize cannulas, as these blunt-tipped devices allow optimal placement of the filler, and minimize bruising and other risks.

Anesthetic in the filler minimizes discomfort during injection. Topical numbing can also be applied prior to treatment if so desired.

Improvement is immediate. There may be swelling, redness, or bruising, which varies according to the individual and the area treated.

Our providers recommend avoiding blood-thinning substances, such as aspirin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications, fish oils, and vitamin E prior to your treatment, and taking certain supplements to minimize bruising and swelling.

Results last from six to 24 months, depending on the individual and the area treated.
