How does the fractional laser work?
During an ActiveFX procedure, the high-energy laser light interacts with the skin’s surface, causing the upper layer to peel off and regenerate a layer of new, healthy skin. These treatments affect only a fraction of the skin’s surface in pinpoint columns, leaving microscopic adjacent areas of skin untouched. This allows for safer, faster healing of the skin. You might also consider the Clear + Brilliant® laser resurfacing treatment, another fractional laser that requires minimal downtime. The more aggressive MaxFX™ laser treats the entire surface of targeted areas, but requires more recovery time.
Most of our patients also have a dermal filler or volumizer treatment done the day of their ActiveFX procedure. This combination treatment offers tightening benefits and evens out the skin in addition to filling in areas of volume loss, wrinkling, or scar tissue. Our team can also evaluate your skin and recommend complementary procedures or even other laser treatments such as ResurFX™ that might better serve your goals.
What can I expect after treatment?
The fractional technique for laser skin rejuvenation helps our clients return to their normal activities with little downtime because the treated areas heal quickly. The face takes approximately 5 days to heal, and the neck and chest take about 2 weeks. Most effects of treatment become visible right away, whereas others, such as new collagen formation, build up gradually and result in continued smoothing over the ensuing months. Improvements with the skin’s texture and tightening can occur up to 18 months after treatment.
How long will results last?
Results of ActiveFX treatments are long term and, with proper sun protection, can last for many years.
