Skin Spectrum

Whether you want to improve wrinkles, uneven coloring, or rough texture, we have a chemical peel for you in Tucson at Skin Spectrum. Dermatologists have used various peeling agents for over 50 years to renew the appearance and texture of the skin. Chemical peels involve applying a chemical solution to the skin that causes the outer layers to eventually peel off. The new, regenerated skin is smoother, tighter and more even than the old skin.

What Are Light Peels

We offer a variety of light chemical peels that are sometimes referred to as “lunchtime peels.” These treatments help to exfoliate and refresh the appearance of your skin and can help with certain skin problems such as acne, fine lines, and brown patches. We also offer a micro peel that features microplaning, a gentle exfoliation that also removes “peach fuzz” facial hair.

Various forms of exfoliating or peeling of the skin can lighten or completely remove excess pigment. There are medical grade (only available from a physician) alpha, beta, and polyhydroxy acid masks and peels that you can use at home to supplement an excellent topical regimen. The Clarisonic® Brush exfoliation devices can increase penetration of skin care products by as much as 61%.

What Are Medium Peels

Medium peels are stronger than the superficial lunchtime peels and often contain trichloroacetic acid (TCA) or stronger acids. We offer medium peels like the PCA Professional™ TCA, Beta-Lift® beta hydroxyacid peel, and the Vi Peel™ because they provide improvements you’d expect from a medium peel with minimal discomfort and little to no downtime. Often a single treatment is enough to give you noticeably smoother, softer, clearer, and more radiant skin.

What is an Obagi Blue Peel?

An Obagi Blue Peel® is a deep chemical peel that we use to provide dramatic skin rejuvenation for our Tucson clients. The Blue Peel is stronger than our other types of peels and requires one week of healing time for the face. This peel can be applied to non facial skin areas for rejuvenation and requires a little longer healing time. Medications often are prescribed for facial peels to diminish discomfort and help you relax, and therefore you will need to have someone drive you to and from your Blue Peel appointment.

This peel contains TCA along with a patented Blue Peel pigment that enables the doctor to control the depth of the peel. These applications produce a controlled peel, causing new, refreshed skin to appear. Most patients experience a warm to hot sensation, which lasts about 5 to 10 minutes.

Following a Blue Peel, the skin feels very taut and dry. It is initially red and then takes on a brown color. It will flake and peel over a period of about one week. It is important to avoid overexposure to the sun after a chemical peel since the new skin is fragile. We will prescribe aftercare with proper skin care products to reduce the chance of sunburn, irritation, or pigmentation.
