As you age, your skin experiences the effects of the aging process and sun damage. The tissues lose elasticity, and moderate and harsh wrinkles begin to appear. In many cases, these signs of the aging process appear prematurely.

Losing your skin’s youthful beauty can feel frustrating and depressing. To smooth away facial lines and folds, we offer Restylane treatments.

What Is Restylane?

Restylane is an FDA-approved dermal filler used to address moderate and harsh wrinkles around the mouth and nose. These include marionette lines, parentheses lines, smoker’s lines, and the nasolabial folds.

This injectable filler is formulated with non-animal-sourced hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in the body. Hyaluronic acid adds volume and softness to the skin, delivers nutrients, and helps retain moisture. It acts as a cushioning agent by holding in water at the injected site, which creates volume to restore a youthful appearance.

Is Restylane Right for You?

You are advised to consult with a medical professional at Skin Spectrum to ensure that you are an ideal candidate for Restylane treatments. In general, you are eligible if:
• You are over 21 years of age.
• You are not allergic to the bacterial protein used to make hyaluronic acid.
• You are not allergic to lidocaine (a local anesthetic included in Restylane).
• You do not have a history of severe reactions or any allergies to dermal fillers of any brand.
• You have not had any recent cosmetic procedures done in the treatment area.
• You are not pregnant, planning to be pregnant soon, or breastfeeding.
• You do not have a bleeding problem and are not taking blood thinners.

There are several other constraints based on health, which your healthcare provider will be able to explain in greater detail.

Coming In for a Restylane Treatment

A Restylane treatment session is typically quite simple and quick, only taking around 30 minutes total. The targeted areas of the face are first cleaned and carefully marked to guide the filler injections.

After this, an ultrafine needle is used to deliver small amounts of Restylane into the targeted wrinkles. The ultrafine needle makes this treatment gentler than many other fillers. Additionally, Restylane is prepared with lidocaine, a local anesthetic that numbs the treatment area to pain and discomfort.

Once the product has been injected, no recovery or downtime will be required. This makes the procedure much more convenient than facial-rejuvenation surgeries. Common side effects include temporary minor swelling, bruising, and redness; these diminish within a week.

The patient is free to leave our office as soon as the treatment is complete and can then return to their regular daily activities. Because patients frequently get this procedure done during their lunchbreak and then return to work, it is called a “lunchtime procedure.”

Restylane’s benefits typically last for up to 18 months in the skin, much longer than many other injectables. Once the product has safely been fully absorbed into the body, the patient can return for follow-up treatments to preserve their youthful looks.
